Proffix Swiss Bike Cup – Lugano

Wow, the cross-country season 2017 is already in the books. Last Sunday I successfully finished my last race in Carona, Lugano. The past week was a really hard one. It was difficult for me to focus and motivate myself. It’s time having my well-deserved training break.
I trained hard in the last few weeks with the goal to reach a successful season-end in Lugano. On Saturday I took a view on the new race track. It is a very hard and steep course with about 210 meters difference in altitude. The track also contains some technical passages. Unfortunately, I crashed during the training and therefor my upper body hurts relatively heavy during the race.
But this pain didn’t stop me to race hard. In fact, I started very well. As the seventh elite lady I overcame the long steep climb. I found my rhythm and drove a constant pace. In the third lap I slipped in a curve. After that mishap my handlebar was very skewed. Also, my shifter was displaced and the gears shifted autonomous. Luckily I could fix more or less the problems I had. I continued fighting, gave again my best and finished the five rounds on the 9th place as elite women. Because I took second place in the U23 category, I could stand on the podium, a great season-end! I know that this season, I kissed the ground a few times and I had to accept some crashes. The reason wasn’t mostly bad technical skills, it was because of my reduced and low concentration. Luckily it’s something I can work on. This Monday, 25th September 2017, I went again to the hospital in Basel. One year ago the Fitbone lengthening nail was inserted into my left thighbone to make my 3.5cm shorter leg a bit longer. This nail is now going to be removed. I will stay approximately three days in the hospital and maybe a few days with crutches.
