Mediterranean Epic – Orpesa del Mar

Four hard days, four hard stages are done. Charline (another mountainbike colleague) and I went off into an adventure. It started on Monday when we drove to Spain by car. We had no idea what to expect.

The Mediterranean Epic in Orpesa del Mar is a 4-stage race. We had to contest about 50 – 80km and 1’500 – 2’000hm. It has been a real new experience, because I have not been racing that long time so far. Every stage was about 3-4h riding in the saddle. The racetracks as well as the organization was great. I never expected so many singletrails. I thought that it’s maybe going to be a bit boring. Wrong thought! The major part of the tracks were cool trails. The downhills as well as the uphills were quite challenging and technical. So, I couldn’t avoid the muscle ache. Overall, I am happy with the race and my 11th overall ranking in the women’s elite category. I did not have every stage the same strength. But I think it is quite normal when you compete in such a long and intensive race. On Monday, I drove in direction Calpe where I’ll train together with my sister for another two weeks. The temperature is currently between 10-20°C. Hopefully we can enjoy the sun a bit as well!
