UCI MTB World Cup Les Gets – Too high expectations?

Three intense and exciting weeks are already in the past. Three weeks with better and worse experiences, three weeks and three races. The Proffix Swiss Bike Cup in Andermatt was followed by two World Cups. First in Vallnord, Andorra and one week later (last Sunday), the UCI MTB World Cup in Les Gets, France.

I was really looking forward to this new World Cup and as well on the new track. My expectations were high, maybe too high. I felt like I need real new technical challenges. Sections where your heart might beat a bit faster than usual. Sections where you can show what you are technically able to. Sections who challenge every single athlete. That’s how my imagination and my wish has been. Unfortunately, my wish didn’t become real. The new racecourse has been fun, flowy and fast but there wasn’t anything special on it. No real technical sections, no real challenge. Of course, the faster you ride, the more difficult it becomes. Nevertheless, it remains drivable for everybody. However, it’s not worth to waste too much energy in such situations. It is how it is. The same for everyone. The only thing to deal with things you cannot change is just to accept them. This is by the way my opinion and varies of course from human to human.

Early in the morning, at 08:30 the time has come. I was so motivated and looking forward to race. I just wanted to start and push as hard as I can. After a fast start, I unfortunately lost some positions. In the next two laps, I finally found him, my rhythm. I felt good, felt powerful. The regular lap times confirmed my feeling during the race. I rode all laps within 30 seconds difference. In the end, I had some energy left and gave fullgaz. Obviously, I am not happy with my 29th place and it is not where I want to be. Although I fought and gave everything, I had and this is important too. It unfortunately takes some time now until the next World Cup. Quite sad actually. I really would like to do another few races soon. In addition, yes, patient is not one of my strengths.
