PSBC Andermatt – Solid performance despite the heat

During the last two weeks at home, I had time to get used to the heat. In the Bernese Highlands we had temperatures up to 38°C. Of course, that was really hot. But due to that, my body was able to acclimatize.

I was really looking forward to the competition in Andermatt. The racecourse is playful, varied and fun. But I still had some mixed feelings. I absolutely had no interest in experiencing a déjà vu from Swiss Championship in Gränichen. That’s why I absolved some trainings while high temperature outside. That was hard but a good decision in my opinion. I tried to drink enough before the race and cooled down my body with fresh water during the race as well. That worked quite well. But you have to be careful, that the water is not too cold. After a good start I rode in group of three athletes. After 3 laps, I unfortunately had to slow down a bit. My power got less and the heat became stronger. By the way: our start was at 12:00, so exactly in the midday heat. After five laps the 80% rule took me out of the race. I finished the race on place 15 elite and 7th U23 category. See u soon in Andorra!
